About Our Missionary Teaching Program
The role of Missionaries at Louverture Cleary School is broad and affects many areas of community life.
teaching
Primary responsibilities are in the classroom, teaching classes ranging from language and religion to laboratory science and computers.
Community life
It is perhaps outside the classroom where Missionaries make their greatest contributions. Their very presence gives witness to the philosophy of sacrifice for the sake of others that is so important to the Louverture Cleary community. Missionaries live at the school, allowing them to spend an incredible amount of time with students.
SPIRITUAL LIFE
The Missionary Community lives out The Haitian Project's Charism of work and service for the benefit of others each day. The Missionary Community along with residential Haitian Staff begin and end each day in prayer, attend weekend Mass, and grow through study of the Church's social teachings and their application to The Haitian Project's mission. The Missionary Community lives out the school's motto of "What you receive for free, you must give for free" (Matthew 10:8) as an example for the school community to do the same.
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
Missionaries teach physical education and lead extracurricular activities. Missionaries monitor four study hours per week, providing a valuable opportunity for students to have individual attention from their teachers. It also gives the students, adolescents who live away from their families five days each week, sources of stable adult interaction.
EMPOWERMENT of female students
Missionaries lead the students in empowerment groups to encourage strength in and outside the classroom, and in daily example.
PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT
Each Missionary has personal responsibilities in different areas of the school: language program or other curriculums, work projects, community service programs, etc.
PROGRAM SUPPORT
Missionaries are asked to assist in raising funds necessary for their support in Haiti. We help you in choosing how and when to go about this. The support you raise helps cover the expense of your service and helps raise awareness about the Project and its mission of transforming Haiti through education.
